Kef

Kef Started back in 1961 KEF has been a key player in speaker innovation and the British hi-fi industry. Raymond Cooke, the founder of KEF, used his expertise in electrical engineering to help create KEF’s first speaker, the K1. Using state-of-the-art materials put the K1 into a different realm from its competitors; it used drive units with foil-stiffened, vacuum-formed polystyrene diaphragms and the revolutionary T15 tweeter with a diaphragm made of Melinex.

With the need to continually improve Cooke and his team at KEF were determined to purse the most natural sound they could. With the development of the neodymium/iron/boron magnetic material, developed by NASA, KEF was finally able to figure out how to make a tweeter small enough to be placed in the heart of the bass unit coil, providing the listener with a single point source of sound; and so the Uni-Q driver was born and eliminated the idea that you had to be on direct axis with the speaker’s drive units to get the very best sound.

KEF have never stopped developing and inventing new ways to design and manufacture speakers that are true to life. One of their most recent success that took the hi-fi world by storm and won countless awards by critics around the globe – the LS50. This small standmount speaker outperformed speakers more than three times its asking price and has become a reference level speaker for many music enthusiasts.

At all levels of affordability KEF speakers are top-notch performers. Raymond Cooke would be very proud of what his company has achieved.
