Quad

Quad When a conversation about British home audio happens, there is a good chance the brand Quad comes into the conversation. The reason being has a lot to do with far reaching history the company has with audio reproduction. Founder and chief designer, Peter Walker, created some of the most iconic audio kit that has ever been manufactured. An example of his brilliance came in 1956 he and his team developed the first full range electrostatic speaker, the ESL 57 – even today these speakers are considered to be one of the finest speakers ever created.

Having stayed true to Walker’s legacy throughout the years, Quad has continually improved upon some of their most respected products. Take for example the Quad 303 power amplifier which employed current-dumping technology, over the years has been finely tuned and tweaked to keep in trend with the current demands of the hi-fi world; the latest is the Artera Stereo amplifier. The ground breaking ESL 57 have also undergone many improvements over the years to become a reference level speaker in the ESL 2912. When it came time to update their Classic series, they went to one of the best vacuum tube (or valve) gurus, Tim DeParavicini, in designing the latest versions of the QII Series.

To this day Quad is still one of those brand that pushed the envelope in the hi-fi industry; as Quad’s moto reads, The Closest Approach to the Original Sound, is still the motivation behind this great British brand.
